I was checking out Google Analytics on the blogger account I have had since 2004 but really not used much since. Big problem. I have very little content there and almost no traffic to analyze. WordPress don’t allow me to use Google Analytics on wordpress.com, so I can’t analyze all the wonderful activity here. This got me wondering how easy it would be to migrate my blog to blogger and the answer is as easy as 1,2,3.
1) In WordPress go to Tools Export and click on the Export button
This will give you an XML file to save to your computer in the WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR format with all your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags. Excellent for loading to another WordPress Blog.
2) You need to convert this WXR format to something blogger can read, so got to http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/
Load up your WXR file and you will get a file back in blogger format. All powered by the Google App Engine (thanks guys)
3) Go to blogger dashboard and click import, select the file you got from 2) above
One thing to be careful about is it will also pull in your draft posts from WordPress, so I recommend that you don’t check the box to publish right away, better to review and publish after the import.
So now I have all my blog posts on blogger as well as on wordpress, next problem to solve is if I could keep them synched up automatically, which I think might be a more difficult problem.
i got some errors during converting WXR file. it is smaller than 1MB. i was able to convert when my WP still use 2.9 version. but after upgrade to 3.0, some errors happen.

Are you able to import images from WordPress to Blogger?

The method I describe here will also migrate the images. The only problem I noticed with the images was some of the captions were left off, but I think that is just because Blogger doesn’t support that?

I have all the pages and comments and the images are being pulled from my WordPress. How do I shift the images over to Blogger? Thanks.

Worked beautifully. I love how well everything was preserved, especially the publishing history.
VERY grateful for this tool.
The only things that didn’t migrate were my pages. Code for image captions was also mis-translated.
Thanks very much!!

So sorry, my last comment was inaccurate. The pages migrated — all I had to do was publish them. Must get more sleep. Thanks again for this quick and painless migration method.

I tried this for one of my self-hosted WordPress blogs over the weekend. Posts and Pages imported… but none of my Posts’ Comments were imported. Were you able to get Comments imported as well?

@davedomingo – glad it was helpful. It took me a while to figure out I had to publish things again too.

@Colleen – my comments were all migrated fine, I just checked to be certain and they all seem to be there.

Thanks for the quick response, David. Unfortunately, I still can’t get Comments to import from any of my WordPress.org or WordPress.com blogs. I hopped on the app’s Google Code site, and there seems to be some issue with posts that use Excerpts, which I do. So, I’m still trying to find a solution. My WP.org comments import to WP.com, WP.org and Posterous fine — only Blogger seems to not like my XML WP2Blogger export.

Fantastic and worked almost flawlessly (except a few things like not capturing bold/italics)
Thanks a bunch!

I didn’t notice any problem with the bold / italics, but now I went and checked seems a few of those didn’t make it. Not a huge deal I guess.

Hi I am Aaqil from Pakistan.
I have spent more than three years in with wordpress, wordpress.org, jigsy.com
But at the end, I have moved wordpress.org to blogspot. New blogspot is much better than before.
In wordpress.org i hated, server fees, hosting issues, hosting resources issues, hacking attacks, wordpress.org broken or outdated codes/themes/plugins.
And in wordpress.org i could never find such good stable and free mobile template which is present in blogspot.
My blogspot blog is http://aaqilx.blogspot.com
I am feel much better now :)

Thank you so much for this. I know I couldn’t have done it without you! I’ve just done a post on my blog about this, and have told everyone to come and read your tutorial: http://1stfloorflatcomputery.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/how-to-move-your-blog-from-wordpressorg.html
My blog was so big I had to convert in sections, but it worked beautifully and without any hiccups once I figured that out.
Thanks again – I’ve been so unhappy on WordPress, and it’s a great relief to be back on Blogger again.

I know this is an old post, but you can use ifttt to keep new posts synchronized between the two. For instance: ifttt.com/recipes/41527

Hi, I just did this. I am self hosted at WordPress and wanted to switch to blogger. I had not read this post, but figured out how to convert the files on my own. I had three years of blogging and my file was big, so I did one month files at a time. Everything worked great and imported perfectly.
As soon as I redirected my traffic from my old site to my new blogger site, all of my pictures disappeared. Not my posts, but the pictures. So, now I am not sure what to do. I no longer want to self host, however, I don’t want to lose all my posts. Does anyone know what I could do to move my blog? Thank you
